True to its motto, “making work easy,” Renfert GmbH is dedicated to simplifying workflows in dental laboratories, dental practices, and orthodontic clinics through high-quality dental products. This commitment also extends to the company’s internal processes. For example, Renfert optimized its inventory procedures to increase efficiency by implementing the REMIRA cloud solution for stocktaking. Thanks to the SaaS-based solution with a digital counting app, the entire inventory process has been significantly streamlined, giving the dental specialist far greater flexibility and ease in conducting inventories.

Renfert GmbH has stood for quality and innovation in the dental sector for 100 years. The company from Hilzingen on Lake Constance is one of the leading manufacturers of high-quality equipment and materials for dental technology and medicine and sells its products in over 120 countries worldwide. However, the wide range of products also presents Renfert with challenges - such as the tedious task of annual stocktaking. In order to reduce this effort, the company decided more than 15 years ago to abandon a time-consuming full inventory and introduce a simplified sampling procedure. In terms of IT, the dental specialist receives support from the Dortmund-based software provider REMIRA. Its cloud solution for inventory sampling has now taken the process to a new level of efficiency.

Transparency and control in real time

After switching to the REMIRA cloud solution in late summer last year, Renfert carried out the first inventory using the new tool in November. The improvements were immediately noticeable, as Sarah Bötzer, Team Leader ERP & Process Management and Inventory Manager at Renfert GmbH, reports:

"The entire handling of the solution was much more flexible and clearer - so we were through with the stocktaking within a few hours. Instead of having to laboriously transfer the counting results into the system manually, the REMIRA app now does this work for us: All data is automatically imported into the tool in real time."

This means that deviations can be detected immediately and recounts can be initiated directly if necessary.

Coordinate counting teams and random samples easily via the app

Preparation for the stocktake is now also much quicker. The current stock levels simply need to be uploaded the evening before - the REMIRA solution automatically determines the items to be counted and supports the inventory manager in assigning the counting teams. "The allocation is quite complex for us, as only one team should count in each aisle and we also have to differentiate between items on foot and those stored higher up. Previously, we organized this using handwritten lists, but that was quite time-consuming," explains Sarah Bötzer.

"We can now define the teams directly via the REMIRA app and simply assign them the corresponding counting positions using drag & drop. The next morning, all they have to do is scan the QR code with their smartphone - and they're ready to go."

In the five warehouses at the Hilzingen site - including warehouses for finished goods, component warehouses and storage areas connected to production - only 349 items need to be counted instead of the original 15,000.

The REMIRA tool also scores with further advantages: For example, it makes it much easier and quicker to adjust information in the system. Thanks to the close and individual support during the shift process, Renfert and REMIRA were also able to carry out additional interface optimization. As a result, Renfert can now even precisely include boxes located within a storage location. Renfert also considers the flexibility gained to be particularly advantageous: authorized employees can access the REMIRA tool at any time and, above all, from any location, which defines a clear advantage in everyday operations.

Successful step into the cloud future

Accordingly, the company is very satisfied with the switch to the REMIRA cloud solution and the associated optimizations:

"The first inventory really worked very well. The whole process was very intuitive, we were guided transparently through every step and had the feeling that, in principle, we couldn't do anything wrong,"

says Sarah Bötzer. The switch to REMIRA's cloud solution is an important step in the dental specialist's digital transformation strategy. This is because Renfert is working in parallel on transferring further business processes to the cloud in order to achieve even greater networking and efficiency of all processes.
