EUROBAUSTOFF ZLN implements new REMIRA AI Forecast

EUROBAUSTOFF Zentrallager Nord GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered in Sittensen, is one of the central logistics hubs of the EUROBAUSTOFF building materials trading cooperative. The central warehouse ensures product availability for numerous shareholders in northern Germany and guarantees highly efficient logistics chains. REMIRA’s inventory management software plays a key role in this—and will do so even more effectively in the future with the support of the new AI forecast.

REMIRA’s on-premise inventory management solution has been in use at EUROBAUSTOFF Zentrallager Nord GmbH & Co. KG since mid-2014. Today, approximately 250 suppliers are managed using the software. The decision to choose REMIRA was made at the time because the previous system could no longer keep up with the company’s requirements. The REMIRA software, on the other hand, impressed the company with, among other things, its numerous configuration options. Simeon Spies, who heads IT and Controlling at the Central Warehouse North, still recalls this. He has been with the company for nearly 35 years and was therefore also involved in the implementation of the REMIRA software:

“Right from our first meeting with REMIRA, we explained how we envisioned the configuration. And that’s exactly how it was implemented—without any complications. To this day, everything that was promised to us back then has been delivered.”

The EUROBAUSTOFF Central Warehouse North operates as a logistics service provider for the building materials wholesale industry. Every day, 62 shareholders at 189 locations are supplied with all kinds of building materials from the Central Warehouse North. In this way, the company ensures product availability for numerous shareholder locations in northern Germany and maintains highly efficient logistics chains. The decision to rely on REMIRA’s inventory management software quickly paid off, as Simeon Spies notes with satisfaction:

“Our processes have improved significantly with REMIRA and have become much faster thanks to the excellent scheduling results. Some suppliers are now 100% automated.”

Precise order planning—for individual items and entire truckloads

Außenaufnahme EUROBAUSTOFF Zentrallager NordThe speed of these processes is a real added value for the EUROBAUSTOFF Central Warehouse North, as the handling here has a unique feature. The company purchases full truckloads from suppliers and then picks them down to smaller batch sizes—right down to individual items. This means that the scheduling parameters must be defined with pinpoint accuracy. “The federal government’s ‘construction stimulus’ hasn’t really taken off yet. That’s why our shareholders currently prefer to place orders with us for smaller quantities rather than full truckloads. We rely on a system that speeds up our processes even as batch sizes get smaller,” explains Simeon Spies. And this is exactly where the REMIRA solution shines.

The EUROBAUSTOFF Central Warehouse North, for example, uses the restocking functionality. If an item is missing from the warehouse, an order is automatically triggered. “That’s a capability the old system simply couldn’t handle,” recalls the Head of IT and Controlling. “Of course, this approach also carries a certain residual risk,” he says, referring to the possibility of excess inventory. “Toward the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, for example, we had to drastically scale back automation. The system couldn’t have anticipated those consequences.” However, the fact that the inventory management software can intelligently factor in exceptional events could soon become a reality at EUROBAUSTOFF Zentrallager Nord GmbH & Co. KG. The company has decided to switch to the new SaaS version of the REMIRA inventory management software—initially still in hybrid mode. After more than a decade of successful partnership, a new chapter is now beginning.

Optimally analyzing data with AI forecasts

Two aspects were particularly important in the decision to switch to the new version: on the one hand, the reliability of the proven partnership; on the other, the vision for the future. This is because REMIRA’s AI-powered forecasting solutions offer enormous potential for automation. Quentin Gabriel, IT system administrator at EUROBAUSTOFF Central Warehouse North, agrees:

“Especially when it comes to special cases and individual events, AI-Forecast will certainly enable more automation in the long run. In addition, we’re continuing our internal efforts to collect and utilize existing data in a meaningful way so that we can incorporate it into the system.”

Gabriel sees it as a further advantage that the artificial intelligence does not come from an external source but is integrated into REMIRA’s familiar and proven system. “This allows us to ensure a very smooth transition and means we aren’t forced to switch to a different model overnight. We can continue to rely on REMIRA and don’t run the risk of anything suddenly not working the way it did before.”

Strong commitment: roadmap through 2031

The long-term orientation of the project also demonstrates that the collaboration between REMIRA and the EUROBAUSTOFF Central Warehouse North is on solid ground. The transition to the cloud is being carried out strategically in two phases. While the hybrid version was launched back in February of this year, the complete switch to full SaaS operation* is planned for January 2028. In this way, the company not only ensures technological continuity but will also actively participate in the evolving vision and new features of REMIRA’s AI Forecast.

* Full Software-as-a-Service refers to a model in which an application is delivered entirely via the cloud, and REMIRA handles all aspects of operation, maintenance, security, and infrastructure.
